About

Progressive Medicine’s Ecology of Wellness is a proactive approach designed to optimize physical, psycho-emotional, and cognitive states. Over 25 years in clinical practice, we have designed a multifaceted program that serves individuals, students/academic institutions, and workplace cultures.

The Ecology of Wellness Program

Progressive Medicine’s Ecology of Wellness offers a wide range of biological health assessments, acupuncture therapies, guided visualizations, and individualized treatment strategies. Our assessments and approaches are not routinely utilized in standard medical care nor in contemporary wellness programs, yet they can have a profound effect on our day-to-day lives.

This innovative model recognizes that mindfully caring for our own health is reflected in all our daily experiences. An individual with an enhanced state of health and perceived wellness is more likely to perform optimally, be self-empowered, and skillfully identify, develop, and pursue goals, both personal and professional. When this model is applied to a group of interacting individuals, the benefits become amplified.

The Ecology of Wellness acknowledges that health is defined by our capacity to aptly sense, respond, and self-regulate within internal and external environments. A balanced internal ecology is a prerequisite for achieving our full potential. When this inner terrain is balanced, our response rates to any therapy or health program are improved.

Achieving Balance

The importance of biochemical analyses—designed to identify specific vitamin, mineral, fatty acid, and neurotransmitter imbalances—cannot be underestimated. For example, inadequate levels of vitamin D, vitamin B12, magnesium, or zinc, or genetic differences in methylation (MTHFR) of folic acid are common. These differences result in multiple adverse changes involving brain function, cardio-cerebrovascular risk, energy levels, abnormal immunity, etc.

Clinical manifestations can include:

  • Decreased memory
  • Reduced attention
  • Problems concentrating
  • Depressed mood
  • Fatigue
  • Anxiety
  • Reduced muscular coordination
  • More frequent infections
  • Sleep disorders

By reversing and/or compensating for these factors, symptoms can be reduced or alleviated.

Awakening Awareness

The Awakening Awareness component of the Ecology of Wellness is a series of guided visualizations that expand the conscious perception of the whole body, including sensations, thoughts, and emotions. This open, effortless awareness allows us to maintain a state of balanced, relaxed activation, which improves assessment of self, assessment of sensory experience, and our response to both.
